Hello! I'm Griela
As a Clinical Psychology Doctoral Candidate from Albizu University, my career journey reflects deep involvement in the intricate interaction of neurological, psychological, and behavioral variables across a diverse population. With an impeccable foundation in clinical psychology and exceptional student education, my expertise thus ranges from neuropsychological assessments and evidence-based interventions to crisis management techniques with children and adults who have severe developmental delays or mental health issues. I also have extensive psychological work experience providing behavior intervention to adults released from the defendant’s program, which expands on my forensic experience.
My clinical experience in the Memorial Neuroscience Institute Division of Pediatric Neuropsychology has perfected my well-developed skills in performing comprehensive assessments for children and adolescents with a wide range of neurological disorders, including epilepsy, brain tumors, and neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. This work has thus been instrumental in formulating an understanding sensitive to the unique challenges this poses for a young patient and his family members, enabling tailored intervention strategies to address needs at both cognitive and emotive levels.
The Design Neuroscience Center and HCA Florida Kendall Hospital furthered my responsibilities by working with individuals throughout their lifespan, especially those with acquired brain injuries and neurocognitive disorders. I had the opportunity to work at a high-paced Trauma Center in which I was able to clinically assess patients with different intensive care requirements, such as strokes, status epilepticus, traumatic brain injuries, traumatic motor vehicle collisions, and more. My understanding of the resiliency of the human spirit is clear, and there is a need for culturally competent treatment. My English and Spanish proficiency has helped me support a diverse clientele and guarantee that language barriers do not prevent appropriate mental health care.
Perhaps most importantly, my role as Clinical Director at Developing New Horizons showed my leadership and commitment to efforts that enhance outcomes for children and their families. This role included managing a team of behavior analysts, developing detailed training programs, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care. This role has enabled me to contribute significantly to parent training initiatives by providing competencies and knowledge to ensure positive behavior change reinforcement occurs at home.
By dealing in publications and presentation skills during conferences, my research interests lie in investigating the points of intersection between trauma, technology, and child development. These scholarly pursuits have enriched the field while informing my clinical practice through an assurance of state-of-the-art empirical findings that ground my interventions.
This second aspect becomes crucial because an emphasis is placed on the appropriate development of skills in both the replacement and reduction of challenging behaviors. As a Board-certified behavior analyst and crisis management-certified professional, my skill set is better primed to work effectively with challenging behaviors and high-stress situations. This has indeed proved helpful in de-escalating maladaptive behaviors and managing crises—ingredients particularly essential when working with youth and in programs for defendants.
My commitment to professional development and community service manifests through active involvement in various professional organizations and my work as a Student Leadership Coordinator at Albizu University. This position allowed me to implement an attitude of inclusivity and innovation in academia and further enhanced my continuous drive to learn more.
The long-term vision is to continue striving to provide continuous value to clinical psychology, with a strong focus on enhancing outcomes for children, youth, and families from many backgrounds. By amalgamating my wealth of clinical experience, research acumen, and leadership ability, I can offer meaningful impacts in both clinical and academic settings. I am consecrated to providing kind but evidence-based service to those in need.
